Synthesis of country studies of institutional arrangements for poverty reduction strategy monitoring systems for the World Bank

For The World Bank

Locations of Project

This study was commissioned in recognition that, while there is a substantial body of literature on technical aspects of PRS monitoring, covering issues such as indicator selection and data requirements, the institutional dimension has received much less attention.

The World Bank and the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (DFID)  jointly commissioned a series of case studies on the experience of PRS monitoring in thirteen countries:

  • Africa: Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Tanzania and Uganda
  • Latin America: Bolivia, Guyana, Honduras, Nicaragua and Peru
  • Europe/Central Asia: Albania and Kyrgyzstan.

The work resulted in guidance published as "Beyond the Numbers" by the World Bank.
